Starting Therapy
and what to expect from Sessions
Starting therapy can feel daunting. My priority is to offer a warm, empathic, confidential, and non-judgmental space. I will be led by you, and you set the pace.
There’s no “right” issue you have to bring to therapy — whatever’s on your mind is valid. Everyone comes to therapy for their own reasons, and no two experiences are the same. You might be dealing with a loss, feeling anxious without knowing why, or just feeling stuck, low, or disconnected from meaning or direction in your life.
Therapy can help with:
-
struggles in relationships
-
anxiety, depression, or emotional ups and downs
-
unresolved childhood grief or trauma
-
family issues or conflict
-
identity exploration
-
phobias, compulsions, or panic attacks
-
self-harming patterns
-
difficulties with food, weight, or body image
-
adjusting to big life changes like breakups, parenthood, or job loss
-
trauma
-
grief, bereavement and loss
-
addiction-drugs, alcohol, sex, spending
-
feelings of loneliness or isolation or like you don’t quite belong
-
feelings or questions about sex or desire
-
sexuality
-
feeling different
-
stress
-
affairs and betrayals
-
health issues and health anxiety
-
feeling stuck or unfulfilled

What to Expect from Therapy.
You may be experiencing some of the issues above or something different altogether. You might not know exactly what’s wrong, only that something doesn’t feel right. That’s okay.
The Initial Session
Booking an initial session gives you a chance to:
-
Get a sense of how I work
-
See if we feel like a good fit
-
Begin to untangle what’s going on
-
Often find some emotional relief
We’ll talk about what’s brought you here and what you hope to achieve. This session is a space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without any pressure.
How Therapy Works
Therapy is a place to meet yourself with care and curiosity. What you bring often opens up into something deeper as we go, and how much you explore is entirely up to you.
Sessions usually take place once a week, at the same time, and last 50 minutes. Consistency helps build a trusting, supportive relationship.
Types of Therapy Offered
-
Open-ended therapy: Ongoing, flexible work without a fixed end date
-
Time-limited therapy: usually 12 sessions.
We’ll decide together which approach feels most appropriate based on your needs and goals.
Creating a Safe Space
My aim is to provide a warm, respectful, and attuned environment where you feel safe to be yourself, no matter what you’re carrying. Therapy can help you move toward understanding and change at your own pace.
